## About this calculator

“30 days from today” means the 30th calendar day after today: today is day 0 and is not counted, tomorrow is day 1, and day 30 is the answer. The same rule applies to 60, 90, or 180 days from today, or to any number of days, weeks, months, or years before or after a date you pick. Weeks are 7 days; months and years move along the calendar to the same date, or to the last day of a month that is too short to have it. Your browser calculates the date from your device’s calendar, so the answer is never a page someone else’s server prepared on another day.

## How to read your results

The primary result displays the calculated date along with its corresponding weekday. Below this, the same date appears in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD), accompanied by its ISO week number and day of the year. The timeline visualizes each calendar day as a slot: a hollow, dashed slot indicates the start (day 0, not counted), pale slots represent counted days, and a solid slot marks the result. Ticks below the timeline denote every seventh day for shorter intervals, and months or years for longer spans. An amber diamond highlights 29 February if the period includes a leap day. The box beneath the timeline details the calculation method, including the result if today is counted as day 1 and, for intervals of 28 to 31 days, the date one calendar month ahead. Additional information includes the span in weeks, calendar months, and average months, whether the period crosses into a new year, and the equivalent date in the tabular Islamic and Chinese calendars.

## How it's calculated

Each date is converted into a day number, representing the count of days since 1 January 1970 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. Calculations are performed on these whole numbers, not on clock time, ensuring that daylight-saving changes within the period do not affect the result. For days and weeks, the calculator adds or subtracts N or 7 × N from the day number. For months and years, the year and month are moved forward or back, retaining the day of the month unless the target month is shorter, in which case the last day of that month is used. This approach aligns with EU Regulation 1182/71 (Article 3) for periods expressed in months or years and reflects the documented behavior of Java’s LocalDate.plusMonths and .NET’s DateTime.AddMonths. The start day is excluded, consistent with Article 3(1) of the same regulation and Rule 6(a) of the US Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which both exclude the day of the triggering event. Leap years are determined by the Gregorian rule published by the US Naval Observatory: every year divisible by 4, except for century years not divisible by 400. This results in 146,097 days per 400 years and a 30.436875-day average month, which is used for the “average months” calculation. Week numbers follow ISO 8601, where weeks begin on Monday and week 1 contains the year’s first Thursday. The Islamic and Chinese calendar calculations use the same engine as the site’s Hijri and Chinese converters.

## Worked example

- **Your inputs:** Start on Monday 5 October 2026 and count forward 30 days.
- **Results:** Day 1 is Tuesday 6 October and day 30 is Wednesday 4 November 2026 — ISO week 45, day 308 of the year, 4 weeks and 2 days after the start. Counting 5 October itself as day 1 would give Tuesday 3 November instead. One calendar month after 5 October is 5 November, 31 days away, because October has 31 days.

## Frequently asked questions

### What date is 30 days from today?

The result is the 30th calendar day following today. Today is considered day 0 and is not included in the count; tomorrow is day 1, and day 30 is the calculated answer, determined using the device’s current date. If today is a Monday, 30 days later will always fall on a Wednesday, as 30 days equates to 4 weeks and 2 days. For intervals of 60, 90, or 180 days, users can adjust the amount or choose one of the popular scenarios.

### Is today counted when you count days from today?

No. The starting day is designated as day 0 and is not included in the count. This convention is consistent with legal time limits: EU regulations specify that the day of the event is not counted, and the US Federal Rules of Civil Procedure require exclusion of the triggering day. Some individuals count today as day 1, resulting in answers that are one day earlier; the result panel displays this alternative calculation for comparison.

### Is 30 days the same as 1 month?

Not always. One calendar month after a given date is the same date in the subsequent month, which may be 28, 29, 30, or 31 days later, depending on the month. For example, counting from 5 October, 30 days results in 4 November, whereas one month later is 5 November. When users count 28 to 31 days, the calculator also displays the date one calendar month ahead to illustrate the difference.

### What is 1 month after 31 January?

The result is the last day of February: 28 February in a common year or 29 February in a leap year. If the target month does not contain the corresponding date, the calculation defaults to the last day of that month, following EU Regulation 1182/71 and the documented behavior of Java and .NET date libraries. This rule also means that adding one year to 29 February results in 28 February. Additionally, month arithmetic is not always reversible; for example, in a non-leap year, subtracting one month from 31 March yields 28 February, but adding one month to 28 February gives 28 March.

### Can daylight saving time change the result?

No. The calculator counts calendar dates rather than hours. Tools that add 30 × 24 hours to midnight may produce a result one day early if a daylight-saving time change occurs within the period. For example, using this method, 30 days from 5 October 2026 would be 3 November in New York and London, instead of 4 November. Counting whole dates eliminates this issue across all time zones.

### Why does another website give a different date?

Differences typically arise for one of three reasons. Another website may count today as day 1, resulting in an answer that is one day earlier. It may serve a page generated in advance, so its “today” reflects the date the page was built rather than the user’s current date. Alternatively, it may use its own time zone, which can differ from the user’s near midnight. This calculator determines the date using the device’s current date and displays the date used in the calculation.

### How do I count working days instead?

This calculator includes every calendar day in its count, including weekends and public holidays, and does not adjust dates that fall on weekends. In contrast, legal and contractual deadlines that fall on a weekend or public holiday often move to the next working day, as court rules and EU regulations specify. For calculations based on business days, users should utilize the Business Days Calculator, which excludes weekends and the public holidays of the selected country.
